the Balance

Be and know the dark first
to appreciate the light

In the car
heading home
I thought

‘Dad brought joy into the house
when he appeared with big bags
full of beef, pork and chicken.

We’d all gather around
the dining room table,
6 kids and Ma(sometimes),

when she was not angry
at his spendthrift ways,
as he emptied the bags’.

My thoughts about him
usually recall pain full
anger-inducing scenes.

This reminded me
there is more than one facet
to every belief.

As the clouds clear
the sun peeks through
the Dark the Light

the Left the Right
the balance smack dab
in the middle.
